I recently had the thrill of beating a game I first began as a child. The title is PrincessMaker. When I was a kid of about 8-10 years old we had a DOS machine that could run 6 inch floppy disk games. We owned just a few titles I can recall, some I actually still have, but PrincessMaker actually continued as a franchise and I had no clue until I saw it on Steam. We owned it in the original Japanese, and being as I don’t know any of the language or how to raise an orphan in the 1600’s in feudal Japan, I was miserably bad at the game and my orphan girl never rose to the heights of society. Over the years I have wished for an emulator, and indeed tried several different ways to replay this uniquely intricate and challenging simulation/RPG.

I enjoy text-based and turn-based games because I can leave it open in the background, and play along at my leisure throughout the day while doing other things.

Anyway I recently got a badge for raising “the Princess”! After 30 years of failure. This excellent guide helped me a lot

Through replaying PM1 I have finally laid to rest my curiosities as well as enjoyed a lot of nostalgic feelings.

I also gained more insights about my own identity as a daughter, as well as the dynamic between myself and my father.

Best of all I was able to take screenshots of many of the very strange ‘enemies’ one encounters in the game. I vaguely remembered them as being a little risque, but now I have crisp digital files captured proving the art in the game is really not for kids! I should not have been playing it as a youngster, but hey it was the 90’s. Every nipple makes an impact. At this time I’m not choosing to post all the images as they are too pornographic for general audiences. BECAUSE JAPAN!
